BODY
AS
TEMPLE

Historically, ancestral indigenous cultures have used the body as a medium for painting, not only as an artistic expression, but also as an act of spiritual protection.
This series explores the tradition of body painting, connecting it with the mestizo baroque iconography of the Jesuit missions of South America in a contemporary dialogue about identity, spirituality, and cultural legacy.
Through this duality, the works invite us to question and redefine the concept of temple with a collection of pieces that fuse diverse techniques: body painting, photography, and geo-inks.

The earth, a symbol of fertility and an evocation of Mother Earth, is present throughout the process as a material for painting the body and, later, for photographing.
The images, printed on cotton, are infused with earth pigments and gold and silver leaf, highlighting the intrinsic connection between the human body and nature, suggesting that the body, like architectural structures, can be a sacred sanctuary.
